Most portable camping showers are easy to set up no matter if it’s a shower bag or a more involved unit.

At the very most they usually including nothing more than the shower water heating unit itself with the nozzle.

There are some that come with a stand, a cylinder to hold the water, and a burner or tiny propane tank to heat the water.

A lot of backpackers bring soap with them on the trail, hop into some water and start scrubbing.

These are heavy duty water bladders that usually involve a solar heating element.

This is simply a fancy way of saying that to heat up the water inside the bladder you just leave it out in the sun.

They also include a nozzle and valve to deliver the water from the bag to your body.

Propane Water Heater

The more advanced portable showers will come in the form of a propane water heater.

These units are usually tankless so everything you need will come from external sources.

You simply connect a propane tank or a camp stove as your fuel source directly into the heater, and run a tube from your water source also into the heater.

This will give you a reliable, consistent stream of warm water much akin to your shower at home.

Features to look for include different shower settings such as mist and steady flow, along with more powerful PSI, precise temperature settings, and more consistent hot water.

What Features To Look For In A Good Portable Camping Shower

Features To Look For Include:

• Water flow rate:  This will include the PSI and how strong the water pressure releases from the unit.
• Heating and temperature settings:  More advanced showers will give you the ability to get a more precise temperature vs less advanced units that may only give a general hot and cold, or maybe even just lukewarm.
• Water storage capabilities:  This applies more to the shower bag units as the more advanced units come with hoses that feed from a water source like a bucket.
• Time it takes to heat up: The shower bags typically use the sun as their heating source and can take up to 3 or 4 hours to heat up, while the more advanced units heat up right away
• The ability to hang: You need to be able to hang the shower from a space higher than where you stand for gravity to be able to send the water down and out of the nozzle.
• Weight:  Remember, you have to lug this thing around both empty and filled with water.
